It was great to see my great friends James and Jesse on July 4. James was my first friend in Honolulu when I moved there in 1976. He’s a wonderful abstract painter.
Jesse and Mary kindly allowed me to stay in a room in their house in Kaimuki when a back-stabbing roommate (who I allowed to move in) maneuvered the landlord into taking over and kicked me out so he could move his extended family in. Jesse was also the inspiration for me getting into glassblowing back in 1976.
Dennis was kind enough to lay down guitar tracks for a song I’m working on. I haven’t seen him since the early 80s when we collaborated on music for FEAR OF FAILURE, a one-hour film that won an award at the Hawaii International Film Festival.
Riley was at Jelly’s in Aiea, a popular comic store in the Pearl Ridge area. Unfortunately, they don’t stock DOG EATERS.
I haven’t seen my cousin, Jennifer, for over ten years. It was wonderful to see her with her fiance, Asa, who’s in the Coast Guard. Took them to a movie, “The Hangover,” and a burger.
Brian Watanabe, writer of Rogues Gallery — the movie should be coming out fairly soon — was kind enough to treat me to a club sandwich at Kaka’ako Kitchen in Ward Center. Had an interesting conversation about screenwriting. Always good to see him.
I lucked out for dinner, Cora cooked a wonderful pasta. I had not seen Roman in over 5 years (he has been in Nepal when I have visited), so it was a treat to see him again.
