And So It Goes

Posted on 10.21.20 under Uncategorized

Inspired by the untimely death of a dear friend.

And So It Goes

A sultry sweetness settles on a summer’s eve
Full moon’s glowing promise making lovers believe
That they can freeze this moment for eternity
And lock it up in a vault throw away the key

And so it goes
She’s passed beyond us
With flaunted pose
Brunette to blondness
I held a rose
So deep its redness
And no one knows
Just what my pain is

Her high school yearbook is faded and torn
Heartfelt promises on the pages were sworn
We’ll see you again in five years get a burger and coke
The years go by and all that went up in smoke

And so it goes
She’s passed beyond us
With flaunted pose
Brunette to blondness
I held a rose
So deep its redness
And no one knows
Just what my pain is

The truth in whispers was the passion you screamed
The vision you lived in was the lifetime I dreamed
The happy ending we expected to see
We lost in the fight we had to be free

And so it goes
She’s passed beyond us
With flaunted pose
Brunette to blondness
I held a rose
So deep its redness
And no one knows
Just what my pain is

No Refuge

No Refuge

I saw the face of reality
Marching through the wars of our memory
Lost in the shadow of the crescent moon
A dream that faded away too soon

No refuge could save the brave
From the terror of the grave
But the star spangled banner doth wave
O’er the land of the slaves

We chased freedom through the gloom of the night
The rockets red glare blinded our sight
The greedy gentry swindled the rest
And threw the scraps to the oppressed.

No refuge could save the brave
From the terror of the grave
But the star spangled banner doth wave
O’er the land of the slaves
