BLADERUNNER — great atmosphere, production design, sonic depth, artsy side scenes. A lot of love, effort and thought went into this, but if didn’t have the personality, charm, charisma, and memorable lines and soundtrack of the original.
There were scenes of hi-tech and post-apocalyptic destruction but none of the on-the-ground, small eateries and businesses
And Cybercity LA 2049 should have much more racial diversity from Hispanic to the wide spectrum of Polynesian and Asian. A 95% Caucasian cast weakens the verisimilitude. There were more characters with European accents than human Asians. Joi was a huge naked holgraphic presence, though…
Still highly enjoyable and certainly has more food for thought than a Marvel or DC movie. We have been discussing this for more than 24 hours and in a time where attention spans seem to be that of a gnat, that’s an accomplishment.
Bravo!
Tokyo at the time Bladerunner opened has a bit of that feeling.

RAW Tokyo in Akasaka.
Named one of the top 20 food destinations in Canada, the RAW Almond pop-up restaurant is coming to Tokyo from October 7 to 15.
The food is avant-garde and mixes Canadian and Japanese ingredients and techniques to make something very special. The setting is intimate with only 20 seats per meal, and everyone eats together. The dinner is about going on a journey to push your senses and expectations on what a dinner experience can be. We eat at the same table because we are all collaborators on the same journey. Without inspired spaces the food can be anywhere, without inspired food the space is nowhere.
Chefs were: Mandel Hitzer (www.deerandalmond.com) and Takahiro Matsuyama (www.tk-pino.com)
It was a great 12 course tasting menu!
The space was entirely transformed by the collaboration between Joe Kalturnyk, co-founder of RAW:Almond, Studio RAP from the Netherlands, and Tokyo based design office, frontofficetokyo.
