No, that’s not dog on the grill…

lettuce

We also grow and eat vegetables.

FT1deadfish

We’re not eating this fish, however.

5ipu

Our first ipu. The slugs have marred the surface, but they’ll be used for practice.

Resort living — even if it’s a family resort — might be more preferable to many.

wailea_lite

From Wailea, the view of Molokini and behind it, Kaho’olawe, the island the military used for bombing practice — cuz that’s what winners do!

Sorrow at James Kuroda’s passing

Posted on 10.26.18 under james kuroda

But he lived his life his way without compromise.

James was my first friend in Honolulu. We were in the same Art 115 Class (design) with Kenneth Kingrey. Other students included Gaye Chan (currently the Art Chair at the University of Hawaii, Manoa) and Patty Correira (Patricia Correia Projects in Topanga, CA).

“A time it was, and what a time it was
a time of innocence
a time of confidences…

Long ago it must be
I have a photograph
Preserve your memories
They’re all that’s left you”
— Paul Simon

When we found out that we had a mutual interest in martial arts, James brought out the boxing glove and almost took off my head with a spinning backfist.

We soon started Chen Style T’ai Ch’i in Mōʻiliʻili.

The Art Building was open 24/7 back then, as well.

Peter T. Brown roamed building taking many iconic photos of a great era in the late 70s, before the first Wall Street bubble and the real estate boom when Genshiro Kawamoto bought up houses in Kahala.

James Kuroda’s more recent art.
