Dustin checks the sound at Hank’s Café, a dive on Nuuanu St just off Hotel St in Honolulu while Isaac sets audio levels for recording. Dustin played a great set — symphonic in structure, one theme blending into another.

The key to getting out from yoke of the 1% is having our own food and energy sources. This is our attempt to get a head start and be ready for the Apocalypse.

Dustin at the sound check at WWW in Shibuya.

With Takako Minekawa, one of Dustin’s favorite musicians when he was in high school. It was a huge thrill for him when she came to see him play at Vacant in Harajuku June 2011. They performed together at an event at Aoyama Book Center earlier in the day.

Dustin opened for How to Dress Well, the project of Tom Krell from Brooklyn, who sings like a shaman channeling Gregorian R&B and Active Child (pictured with Dustin) who have an electro-Celtic sound (leader Pat Grossi plays the harp!) with shades of Portishead and Kate Bush. Pat has excellent vocal range, and the band is very tight. Both use laptops to enhance their live performances. Tom Krell’s performance is essentially karoke but his laptop also plays gauzy, surrealistic video which is projected on and a screen behind him.
It was a high quality show and I think that Dustin held his own.
Dustin’s Tokyo tour next date is at Spiral Records at Spiral, a prominent event space in Minami Aoyama (Omotesando subway station).
