Dog Eaters

The Ways of this world

The ways of this world
I’ll never know
Where do we come from
Where do we go

They bought and trashed your soul
tossed you a hot dog roll
And a nickel that they stole
For your life that they control

We walked down paths of greed
Grabbed all that we could see
Skills learned to succeed
Fruit from the poisoned tree

My mind keeps playing loops
Of memories I forgot
Rewind to half past oops
Mistakes are afterthoughts

Rock my dreams to sleep
Illusions, I need to keep
How long can we pretend
That this life will never end

We saw the sun set red
As we lay down on our beds
The world tossed and turned
While we just slowly burned

Some laugh and some will cry
There’s no sense in wondr’ing why
At the end of this game show
It’s what we feel not what we know

The ways of this world
I’ll never know
Where do we come from
Where did we go

You say

Posted on 07.11.21 under Uncategorized

In a rundown car
We drove so fast and far
From the city lights
Fading in the night

On that dusty road
We heard the roosters crow
Racing towards the morn
Away from insults and the scorn

You say we’re safe at any speed
You say my wounds won’t ever bleed
You say you’ve got just what I need
You say it’s all guaranteed

Trapped at home you thought
that what you sought
Was further on
As a platinum blonde

In my mind I asked
Were you triggered by your past?
Or was it just a random thought
The echo of a gunshot

You say we’re safe at any speed
You say my wounds won’t ever bleed
You say you’ve got just what I need
You say it’s all guaranteed
