Takako Minekawa played her first solo live in 13 years at UFO.
Buddy & the Mechanics were also on the bill.
While they played, we hung out in the green room with Momus who came up from Osaka to do this show.
Hippopota Momus was the first CD Isaac got (from his brother, Dustin), so it was kind of thrilling for him to meet him.
Dustin and Junko take a seat…
A British(?) author, Justin Isis, was also in green room trying to rustle up some promotion shots for a novel he wrote with Quentin S. Crisp, and Brendan Connell, “The Cutest Girl in Class.” Set in New Jersey, the cover featured a model holding Blythe. An unauthorized usage, by the way. He spent the rest of the evening in a state of nerves probably hoping that he wouldn’t have to pay royalties…
A fun night, with the added bonus of being close to home.

For some reason, I picked up an old issue of “Spoon,” a culture magazine with a young girl holding an Aibo on the cover. How old was this magazine? Why was it in the meeting room? I flipped though it and saw an announcement for a “Blythe Returns,” an exhibition. Wow, pretty old — this was just 6 months after CWC started designing and producing Blythe in Japan. I flipped through it some more and lo and behold found a photo of Takako Minekawa, Dustin Wong’s current music partner!
And it’s his birthday…

Dustin Wong played the Paradise Rock Club in Boston on 27 September 2013 with the Dodos. Dustin is in the midst of a US tour with over 30 dates. It started in Chicago, went West for a bit then to the East Coast. He’s swinging south through Nashiville, Texas, to the West Coast where he will play a few dates with Takako Minekawa and circle back to Chicago to return to Tokyo.
With Grandma Gloria and Auntie Jan.
Auntie Jan reported: “Rob, Mom and I went into Boston and saw Dustin play last night. He seems to have a nice following. When we walked in, Mom noticed that there were no chairs and said ‘What? We have to stand?’. So, (Uncle) Rob asked for a chair for Mom. The Staff ended up bringing us up to the balcony section and got stools for Mom and I to sit on.”

From the Japan Times:
Headliners at the Green Stage were Nine Inch Nails on Friday, Bjork on Saturday, and The Cure on Sunday, but this year the attendance was 110,000 — the lowest it’s been since 2004…
